Andrew Herrera, MPH, MBA
Andrew joined Curamericas Global in 2009, bringing with him a wealth of experience and education. Prior to joining Curamericas, he worked at the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation for four years and spent a year studying in Ecuador. In 2004, he was selected to be a State Department Ambassador to Jiaonan, China through the American Field Service program. Andrew holds a B.A. in Hispanic Studies and Religious Studies from East Carolina University, an MPH in Public Health Leadership and Field Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health, and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
In 2020, Andrew took the lead in Curamericas Global’s COVID-19 response in North Carolina, providing resources and support to over 10,000 Spanish-speaking families through an innovative volunteer network. He was instrumental in securing an $11 million contract with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to provide 209 community health workers across 26 counties, reaching over 160,000 people in just one year.
As the Executive Director of Curamericas Global since December 2013, Andrew is responsible for overseeing the organization’s day-to-day operations, developing the Board of Directors, and leading strategic initiatives. Under his leadership, Curamericas Global has been recognized for its impact, receiving awards such as the Triangle Business Journal 40 Under 40, the Latino Diamante Award for Health and Sciences, and the Triangle Business Journal Health Care Hero award.
In Andrew’s words, “We must do good for others, but good is not good enough. We must use our minds to maximize the impact of every dollar and every minute we spend. We must hold ourselves to the highest standard, using data to verify and optimize our efforts.”
In his free time, Andrew enjoys exploring different types of music, speaking different languages, playing ping pong, laughing with friends, and dancing.
