A Race to Save Lives: North Carolina Nonprofit Curamericas Global Aims to Raise $500K with Fall Mom-A-Thon Fundraiser
Posted: November 3, 2022

Mom-A-Thon is a virtual race to serve thousands of mothers and their families in the Triangle and forgotten communities around the world

October 2022 – Providing hope through health! That is the mission of Raleigh-based nonprofit Curamericas Global’s 2022 Mom-A-Thon fundraiser. Millions of mothers and children died last year due to lack of access to healthcare – mothers forced to walk hours to reach their closest doctors, mothers whose communities face continuous blackouts, forcing them to receive care in the dark, mothers who don’t speak English and can’t communicate the health issues they’re facing.

Curamericas aims to raise $500k through the peer-to-peer campaign, allowing the organization to serve mothers and families with insufficient access to maternal healthcare. “It’s a really hard world for many people. I think about the suffering of a mom, her child, her family and I think how it is unnecessary,” said Andrew Herrera, Executive Director of Curamericas Global. “We can do something about it, we must do something. The Mom-A-Thon is a way for you to help us right now. Join us.”

In North Carolina, Curamericas partners with frontline agencies to build sustainable programs that help those most in need. These are just a few examples of how Curamericas uses its donations to support mothers and children around the world and right here in the Triangle:

  • During the pandemic, more than 1,200 healthy babies were delivered at Curamericas’ seven Community Birthing Centers (or Casa Maternas) across the globe, with more than 300 life-threatening complications cared for and successfully treated.
  • In North Carolina, the organization supported the hiring, training, and ongoing support of more than 200 Community Health Workers across 26 counties.
  • Curamericas partnered with Kisii County, Kenya to serve a population of 35,960 in adapting the municipality’s birthing clinics with Curamericas’ Community Birthing Center (CBC) Manual and Assessment Tool and installing battery-backed solar panels to ensure 24/7 electricity.

Through Curamericas, a reasonable $28 donation can provide access to life-saving medical resources for one mom and her family for a year. Individuals can donate or join a team to participate and raise awareness for this cause.
